I know this might be a little bit off the wall, asking if there's an online community via MN, but I assure you I don't plan to leave MN any time soon, and just want advice on an additional (professional, not personal) forum recommendation. ... basically I was wondering if there are any UK-focused forums or online communities which focus on women in senior management - kind of like career mentoring but in a community?
I've recently reached a crossroads in my life, and to know where to turn (professionally) I have applied to my contacts in the industry to try and find myself a mentor. I have someone who can possibly commit to this long term (3 - 5 years) in mind, but she is currently unable to confirm this commitment until some time in 2012 (she doesn't work at my employer, not a boss or anything - just someone who does the type of job I've been offered that used to work with a mutual friend). It's fine, because I'm in no hurry.
However, to formulate some of the questinos I'd like her advice on, I'd love to find an online community for this type of thing. I've thought of LinkedIn groups, but the problem with that is that this potential career promotion would be quite tricky if certain colleagues knew I was going for it... I don't want to risk them seeing oh, Mrs A is going to be promoted (you know, when it adds your group membership onto your linkedin name, or when you post messages there it's often public!). I suppose I could create a new Linkedin profile for myself - a fake one... but I don't really want to have to do this.
Anyway, does the sort of thing that I've described exist? I've found some online communities which are USA-based, but nothing for the UK. I was hoping to find maybe a Yahoo Group, or an online message forum, or something but so far I've found very little...?
