I am due to return to work after taking a year off on maternity leave with my first child. I recently had meeting with my employers after making a request for flexible working.

I have accrued around twenty days of holiday which means if returning to work only two days a week, I'd be on holiday until March when I would much rather return in December as originally intended.

The company I work for were recently rebranded which meant we all had to reapply for our positions. My job is safe but my contract is full time(40hrs) so my employers suggested that I come back on a full time contract, take my holiday during that time and come back in the new year by which time my part time hours would take effect.

I would be happy to do that because it will mean I can get back to work am ready to do and it will also I'll get one last full time wage but I'm concerned about whether that would affect my benefits if I technically work full time for one month inorder to clear my unspent holiday in one go.

PLEASE HELP!!! NEED ADVICE

Were you full time before going on maternity leave?
Will your benefits start/change when you go part-time? I would have thought just advise benefits office of the date of change of hours i.e. a month after you go back to work. HTH

Yes, I worked a 40hr week before my maternity leave. My benefit application is new infact still being processed. I am applying for housing and council tax benefit as well as child and working tax credits under the basis of working 16hrs per wk. Estimated earning have also been stated.

So I want to know if my entitlement wiil be affected if I work a 40hr wk for one month to use unspent holiday before I return.
