Asking for more hours work

i use to work full time, then went on maternity leave and when that finished my company were able to give me part-time work, although the guys I work for have to do a lot more for themselves. I would now like to return to full time work. What do you suggest is the best way to approach this.

Is there any reason why you haven't just raised this with your boss? That would seem the obvious thing to me.
