I need some help please over current situation - am working full time current contract due to end Dec2011 - have not yet had this confirmed so I went foran interview today for a job thats £6K less than current work. Have been offered the job - its initially a nine month contract. My only worry is the salary - I live with my partner - we are not entitled to tax credits - have managed to go on holiday this year for the first time in a long time.Im really worried about the drop in salar re new job offer - do you think it is ok for me to ask if there is a possible negotiaiton/flexibility on salary? Ive been working in the vol sector for 20 years and so salary is currently £28k I will miss the wage ! Any suggestions eagerly welcomed thank you x

If you don't ask you don't get.

However I'd say asking them to go from £22k to £28k is probably a bit steep. That's over a 25% increase. You might get an extra thousand or so out of them but I don't think you'll get all of it.

It might be less but if you don't take it do you think you'll get another £28k job in 3 months or less. If you do then you leave it if you don't take it I say.
