Help me write a cover letter, please

It's a long time since I applied for a job.

It's just a christmas job in a shop, but I really need it.

Right, what do I put need to put in it? Should I be trying to sell myself or just a please find enclosed kind of thing?

I normally do -
why I want the job, say something about the company

a couple of lines about relevant experience - so it they have said anything is essential that you have hightlight it
then I look forward to hearing from you

Thanks for that, so:

"Excited at the opportunity to work for such well respected company, who's products I use and would recommend.

Previous relevant experience in retail.

How skills I use in current job are transferable to the one I'm applying for.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, look forward to hearing from etc etc"
