parental leave

Has anyone any experience of taking parental leave?

Our staff handbook says I am entitled to 13 weeks per children with a minimum of 1 week and max of 4 weeks per annum.

I am thinking of taking 4 weeks mid-oct/mid-nov because we are moving house, which means moving nursery and finding a new nanny (to drop-off) and also re-organising our life.
My career is pretty shot so I don?t mind too much about the impact on my job.

The staff handbook doesn?t say whether my application will be automatically granted or if like a request for flexi-time, it is considered but is not automatically accepted.
Any experience?

Thank you!

Have a look at the directgov site. This will tell you everything you need to know about your legal rights with regard to unpaid parental leave.
