if you havn't worked for a while probably not as you need to have paid a certain amount of NI contributions in the last I think 2 years.

tinkbig · 30/08/2011 21:34

i have been out of work since 2005

Your not single your a couple.
Do you have any savings (either your or DH).
Are you looking for work?
Are you available for work?

Contributions of NI are based on the last two years of contributions, if you qualify you will get 26 wks of JSA.

No you won't be.

I trained to be a midwife and couldn't find a job afterwards. I couldn't claim anything as I hadn't paid any NI in the previous two years. Obviously because I'd spent the last 3 years working 40 hours a week unpaid in the local maternity unit. Angry

I'm fairly sure that you fall outside of the eligibility because your household is on such a good wage. Just inside the top 10% of earners I believe.
