Please help - need to leave work

I am emotional and have had a really bad day at work.

I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant. I was due to start my mat leave on my due date but really want to leave sooner.

My mat policy says I have to give 28 days notice of intention to change maternity leave - If I give this tomorrow, would my mat start date be 16th September?

What happens to any outstanding annual leave? I will still have 20 days to take - I was going to take it immediately before mat leave.

You can start you Mat leave from the 16th. As for the holidays its up to employers discretion if you take them before or after the 16th.

Best bet would be to ask to take holiday from the 16th and mat leave 1 month later.

If i was your boss and you wanted to leave tomorrow I would be annoyed as I'd have to sort cover. Also make sure that one "bad" day and hormones are not clouding your judgement.

If you start mat leave Earlier you end it earlier. You face running out of SMP when the baby is @6 months not 9

If you feel really shit you can get signed off sick until a month before your due date

Feeling better today - had a good chat with manager and have pulled myself together.

Damn pregnancy hormones!

Looks like I'll be working till my due date after all.
