Good list for freelance writing gigs

Hi all,

Anyone use a listing or directory to apply for freelance work?

Also if you're listed on anything like the journalism.co.uk it'd be great to know what works.

Personally I've had the most luck with editors who already know my work from placements/jobs, usually happy to discuss your pitches and improve them, and plus you know they pay out!... Never tried a listing but would be willing to pay out if I knew it would work.

This isn't the same thing, but I have picked up some work from the various freelance sites eg peopleperhour.com. It is competitive (esp writing) and you will be competing against people who are willing to work for very little...However, it can be a way to plug the gap and build your experience etc.

I think a mixed approach works the best. "Harvest" your contacts and find ways to find new clients.

Hope that is some help.

I have a freelance writer friend, she gets her work through www.elance.com.
