Any journalists / newspaper reviewers around? Is it worth approaching my local paper?

I have an art history background, considerd trying to be an art critic but went into museums etc. Now a SAHM and moved to the country.

Is it worth asking the local paper if they need someone to review local exhibitions? (The last review I read was clearly by a reluctant farming correspondent...) I'll be going to the exhibitions anyway and I'd do it for free, although obv I'd be delighted if they paid me!

I thought of sending them an email with a short review of a new exhibition to see if they'd be interested...

Do you think its worth a shot? Any tips?

You won't get paid for your submissions. Local papers are run on a shoestring.
