Avon Repping - any good?

I'm thinking of earning a little extra cash while off work and have considered becoming an Avon rep, also to give me a chance to get out and about more too. Has anyone done it - what sort of money potential is in it? Any known pro's / cons would be useful - ta

I have been an Avon rep for 2 years. I started off just doing it for friends and family but have canvassed my road this year and have a few neighbours who are customers. It costs £15 (I think) to become a rep but you get your first set of brochures free. You then have to pay for your brochures each campaign.

I have found it takes quite some time to build up your customer base - probably took me 12 months to get the amount of regular customers I have. At first I often earned nothing because you have to get at least £78 worth of orders to get any commission. I am lucky in that I don't have a great number of customers but they tend to order a lot every time. I now earn approx £100 every 3 weeks. Hope that helps.

Wow - thanks for the replies - very helpful. Sounds like it's quite a long term thing before any cash comes in.

I have a lot of hair dressers near by - that could be a good place to put the brochures too!

I've just started back, you get the first two lots of brochures free, admin fee of £15 comes out of your first two commissios plus a free gift worth £20 atm when you put your first order in.

Minimum order to get 20% is £78. I've done my family friends and a small area and have made £50 my first one. I need to increase this a lot so will be hitting offices etc. and have also signed up to be a Team Leader so I'll be trying to get new Avon Reps to earn even more.

I'm not sure whether to do Kleeneze as well to get the money in quicker has anyone done Kleeneze?

NO! I did it a few years ago and it was bloody hard work for very little reward.

I think I am starting to be glad that I asked. :) I asked onthe AIBU thread too and it was a definate nono to Kleeneze there too.

I think I'll focus on building up my Avon, I've got 7 representatives in my first week, does anyone know if that is any good? I do have an excellent upline leader who is helping me massively.

I did it for a while - I always managed to make some commission, but only £20 - 50 every 4 weeks - I did get a lot of really cheap make-up for me, which was cool, did OK at Christmas too. I work in a school and got some regular customers there which made life much easier. I got sick of having so much stuff in my tiny flat so gave up - now thinking about doing Neals Yard, because I love the stuff and can't afford it at the moment.

No ideas what Neals Yard is but you've hit the nail on the head wonderstuff.... By being a rep for whatever company's products you like it should give you access to getting those goods at a discounted rate (and even better.... being able to try them free!) I tell all new reps on my team that they won't earn a great deal by being an Avon rep but it will supplement their household income by getting discounted and free products. For those, who are switched on, you can earn more than the 25% discount/commission but make sure you apply via a good upliner rather than the first one, who comes along.
