Hi, I wondered if anyone could offer advice please?

I have a weekend job which is going well - but they have asked me to attend a one day course tomorrow. For the last week I've tried to arrange childcare but have failed. This is the 2nd course they've asked me to attend, the 1st one I couldnt make it because I was working elsewhere that day. My manager (who has no children) say I must attend - or i may lose my job. Can they do this? I really like and need this job.

Many thanks for any advice.

if your contracted hrs are only at the w/end then I don't see how you can be made to attend during the week. I am not an expert and would suggest you contact ACAS for advice. it does sound unreasonable if you are good at the job in every other way

How about you suggest you take your child(ren) with you?

I see I'm probably too late, but is the training essential for your job?

How long have you worked there?

It's expensive but in most areas there will be some kind of emergency nanny service/agency if you really can't find any cover.
