Sorry, I just had to come on here for a moan. I do some writing/editing for a publishing house from home. They email me stuff through, but never give me deadlines. I am usually pretty quick though, so I don't think I return any copy late. However, they have just rang me to say that they need me to proof a magazine (which is absolute drivel, and full of mistakes) by 9am tomorrow. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I have an 11 month old DS who likes to pull wires out of the back of the computer to contend with, as well as working a shift in a pub later. Let alone prepare dinner. I just want to swear. Lots. They make it sound so easy. I did say it was nigh on impossible, but there we go. Looks like I will be up until 4am getting it done.

I'm getting back to it now but as DS is bouncing off all the walls at the mo, I don't think I will get alot done before I work later.

Feck.

FGS, that is an impossible deadline. You are joking?!

I also write and edit and if someone asked me to proof a magazine in a couple of hours with no notice I'd say that deadline is impossible. Would they try to write the damn thing in two hours, FFS? It's ludicrous. I think you need to talk to them about their project planning - they knew perfectly well they had this job coming up, why on earth didn't they schedule it properly?

Yes, I did make it plain I wasn't happy, but ultimately, I have to jump to it, as I really need this jpob, and they can just not give me work if I become difficult

Oh no. This is absurd. It doesn't matter what you have planned today or tonight; they are asking you, at 4pm, to do something in one and a half hours.

OK, do it this time, and then get your CV out to a lot of other places. Everyone needs editing and proofing. Believe me.

I have just rang them and shouted. They have agreed that Monday is fine. I can deffo have it done by then. I think they forget that I have other things going on, such as 7 hours of teaching a week, 8 hours behind a bar and looking after DS full time.
