DD got interview for teacher training sp. in science-help anyone with some good answers to questions !

Ok we`ve got the usual questions and some good answers but they are just run of the mill good answers.
She needs to stand out from the rest on this despearately - - - so WHY do you want to be a teacher
WHY do you wish to teach your particular subject (science )
What do you understand to be quality science teaching ?

Any marvellous answers very appreciated x

Because i WANT to teach. I WANT to enthuse students about science/natural history/planets/chemical rections (or whaterver is her thing), to make them want to know more about it.

I LOVE science and I want to pass on (some of) that interest and passion I have about it - both to natural scientists and non-scientists

'Science is a core subject - how will you engage students who don't really WANT to be in your class?' is a common one too

She should talk as much as possible about actual examples of her own experience e.g. any experiences she's had observing in schools, any experiences she's had dealing with children/teenagers, any 'teaching -type' presentations she's done.

e.g. when I was helping in school X I really enjoyed ...I noticed ... I was good at ...
when I watched a fantastic lesson on Y I w\nted to...
I really enjoy helping the scouts/ nieces/ neighbours to learn Z...

We can't guess why she wants to be a teacher! She needs to really work it out for herself - because if she does that, she'll e able to keep going on tough days.

I like teaching because I enjoy my own assumptions being challenged, I like seeing the world from other people's viewpoints, and I love watching someone suddenly discover how fascinating something apparently 'boring' is.

I don't like teaching because it's knackering.

I agree with grendelsmum. I have heard loads of different answers to that question, and there is no right answer. They are looking for real passion and, for me any way, an understanding that loving science teaching is more than loving the subject.

I always like some examples of how knowing about science is important to all students, and not just those that go on to take it further. Especially in chemistry and physics. Biology is too easy!

That's a good one from Basingstoke - though I reckon that the importance of biology which isn't 'how the human body works and how we can stay healthy oh God let me crawl under a rock and expire of boredom' is also worth emphasising.
