Return from maternity no payrise others did...

I took full year off and returned last week. It seems the company awarded payrises to some not all and varying rates.
I haven't had one. Others have in my department and my role in other departments. A colleague also on maternity got one.
It would have been awarded at managers discretion but surely based on performance.
Are they being discriminatory to pick and choose when I haven't been there for any performance measurement although other maternity have been awarded.

Hmm - this happened to my friend - they were going to mark her down in her performance rating and therefore payrise because she had been on maternity leave - but she got the union involved who pointed out that was indirect discrimination and they changed their minds
However its seems your pay rises are at managers discrestion- not a policy across the board as in my friend's case- -so I think you need to have a chat with your manager for the reason why you havn't got a pay rise - and clarify with HR their policy
best practice in my view in this case would be to use last years performance, or the midpoint of range of pay rise but not a legal expert so get more info here or in RL before saying its discrimation directly

If it is an annual pay rise based on performance, and given at discretion, and you have not been there, why would you get one? However, Have the other maternity people been away for the sAme period? Seems odd. Can you not ask HR.

I will speak to my new manager but I don't have any relationship with her as she came during my time off. I guess another reason they can't measure performance as she doesn't know me. The other maternity is 2 months behind me. No change in manager for her.

did you have an apprisel before you went on maternity leave? or is your old manager still around -
and cookcleaner its just not good practice to mark people down because they have been on maternity leave

Moving - sorry but I don't think people can expect performance bonuses if they have not been working. I don't see how they could mark down her performance as she has not been there. However, if person a has been working hard for a year doing above and beyond then person a shoud get a bonus. Why shoud someone who has not been there? It is not a corporate wide pay rise therefore would be described as performance based. The op has simply not been there to qualify.

Check out your companies policy, mine was that you auto got the same performance rating for your mat leave year as your previous year. My boss therefore didn't give me a bonus the year before I left

i really do not see how you can expect a performance bonus for work you did not do
why do you think you should have it (and it is of no relevance what others got we are talking about you)

This happened to me - I was told on my return that I would be reassessed 6 months into my role, and if I was eligible for the payrise I would get it back dated. Which I did.
