Do you actually *respect* the organisation you work for?

That is exactly how DH has been feeling for months. Some of the senior management in his company are simply bullies and it has been awful watching what he has gone through. He finally had enough a few days ago and handed his notice in and I'm very proud of him.

sounds like you are not enjoying your job, life is too short to be like that. I worked for a bully once and she made me very unhappy to the extent that I'd be in tears on Monday mornings dreading going to work. Best thing I did was leave.

i lurched for years - was made redundant and i am now truly truly happy.

Used to, but they've shafted me a little and now not so much.

It is a wonderful place and does truly brilliant things. Very, very, very proud. I want to stay here forever.

My last job I loathed with a passion. Hideous, vile place run by bastards. May they rot.

I think that respect is not quite the right word. I think that they are basically good people trying to do a good job. But FFS we only make fruit juice so hardly life-changing ...but they generally try to do their best for their customers, make serious attempts to reduce their environmental impacts and treat their employees well. Not sure you can expect more.

No. I work for a small tech company founded and run by an independently wealthy man with fantastic ideas but zero management ability or business acumen. AFAIK it's never made a profit, and is essentially a large-scale version of a model train set for him to play with.

It's often boring and frustrating. But OTOH it pays me over the odds for a 4-day week, which means I can afford both the time and fees for retraining part-time in a career I know will keep me busy and happy till I'm a mad old gimmer old.

mumoverseas - I am happy in my work and do respect the organisation and all it stands for. However I used to work for an organisation (was there for 12 years) and it changed beyond recognition in that time. If I hadn't left when I did I think I would have been very seriously ill. I can only see this with the hindsight of two years.

I am sure your DH has done the right thing.

I started the thread because I see and hear so many people who seem to have such distaste, or even utter hatred, for their jobs.

I used to hate my job and was so consumed by the hatred I made myself very unhappy. I loathed what I had to do (essentially taking business away from struggling companies) and had to be permanently at work. My suppliers were in Taiwan, my boss was in LA, so hate to work midnight - 2am every night to speak to the Taiwanese at the start of their day. And work all evening speaking to my boss. And then do a day's work.

The people I worked with were stupid as well. I was there for 10 months and hated every single minute.

I respect the organisation and I think it is very much respected within its field. I don't respect some of the people at the top though and they are in danger of chipping away at it's reputation. It makes me sad. I will probably not go back after mat leave, if I get that far, and I'll be sad to leave it in its present state.

Nope. Used to, but it's slowly slipped away from me so now I'm a lurcher.

I came back from mat leave and asked to concentrate on a different area of my job, but even that hasn't got the spark back.

I've started looking for other jobs. Am really hoping for good news on one application this week.
