How to ask for more money

Hi there

My boss (company FD) is leaving. I have been asked to pick up a lot of his management accounting. This means going from 4 to 7 hours a day.

I am happy to do this and can manage the extra hours however I need to approach my bosses boss and say I want the money it is worth to do this role rather than what I am getting paid for data entry/sales ledger. Think of FD probably on in excess of £60k v my part-time at present role at £8k.

Bosses boss is very much a take take take and give nothing or the bare minimum back and I need to tell him politely yet strongly that there is no chance that I am doing this on my original salary and if he doesn't want to pay me more I am not doing the role.

The other person who covers the other half of my day is picking up the pay roll etc which he did and is in the same position.

Do I ask for a chat and talk to him or send an email? The face to face chat seems the better option however he is very good at avoiding the issue and you walk out with no answers that you went in for.

Suggestions and words of advice welcome please.

If he is good at avoiding the issue in face to face conversation send him an email. That way you can say exacyly what you want to and have a written record of what you asked for.
