posted on money matters too-
not sure if i'm in the right bit, but i am an artist with a day job. i have a rudimentory website with my paintings and prices. someone claiming to be from poland emailed me wishing to buy five of my paintings, adding up to around £3200. it was in stilted english. The person said they had bought some furniture from newcastle to be shipped and was owed a credit note from them. This company are to send me a cheque for my paintings from the money that is owed polish person, then the shippers of the furniture are to pick up my paintings. it was all very odd and i emailed back asking for clarification, the name of the company/shippers and saying that one of the paintings had been sold to someone else and did they have a second choice. they just emailed back saying the cheque is on its way. eek. does this sound legit? is it some sort of money laundering thing? sorry it's so long. any advice gratefully received.

Definitely a scam - there are lots of these around with cheques/money orders etc and the end result is to leave the seller with a bounced cheque and having paid shipping costs. Avoid.
