Bank holiday entitlement while part time

I've just started a new job working four days a week Mon-Thurs. Am I right in thinking that I should get paid for the Good Friday and Royal Wedding bank holidays or have an extra two days off?
I don't want to go in guns blazing but want to make sure I'm getting what I'm entitled to as my HR department seem a bit hazy about it all.

HR should have already made it clear how Bank Holiday entitlement works for you. If they haven't, it would be worth discussing it with them now and get an agreed amount in writing.

FWIW, I don't think you will be entitled to an extra two days off or be paid for it. I'm going on my set-up here. I work two days a week so get 2/5 of holiday and bank holiday entitlement. But, as one of my work days is a Monday, I actually end up having to cover some of my b/h with my holiday. This is because I'm not entitled to the full-time complement of b/h but get the time off as the office is closed.

So, as you work four days, you'll get 4/5 of b/h entitlement. You need to speak to HR, work out how many b/h there are in this annual leave year and then take off 1/5. You'll then know how many days you are entitled to. You may find that those two b/h Fridays then go by the wayside. HTH

At my work, part-time staff get a proportion of the bank holidays, pro-rata. So you would be entitled to 4/5 of each Bank Holiday, whichever day of the week it falls on. (Assuming you do 4/5 of a normal week's hours)

But that would also mean you are only entitled to 4/5 of the day off when it falls on a Monday, which you normally work, so I suspect you'd actually work out better off keeping quiet and just taking the Monday bank holidays!

Hmmm, you might be right in that I just keep quiet!
