Can I do self employed work whilst on maternity leave?

That's it really, I'm in the last three months of maternity leave, so unpaid apart from my childcare vouchers, and I've been offered some self employed work for a few hours (I could do it evenings) can I do this?

My employment contract is silent on this.

Have you checked your maternity leave paperwork? My employment contract didn't mention it but it stated in my ML guff that I wasn't allowed to do self-employed work while on ML
