Any career ideas to work from home!!!!

Hi,
I am looking at either working or starting to work from home. My background is this:
I have a degree in Media production, and worked as a production coordinator for 4 years before leaving to become an air hostess, which is where I currently am. Although this was a great way to see the world, I am a little sick of the airline I work for, and would like to do something that would involve using my brain again!
I once thought of running my own diary service for production crew, and this is something that can definitely be done from home, but I am not sure on the need for this in the industry at the moment.
I currently work 7 -9 days a month with the airline and work weekends so we do not have to worry about childcare, therefore something primarily from home would be ideal.
I am good at paperwork/computers/organising among other things.
I like the idea of Personal assistant work, and diary management, but not sure if this is something I could do part time!
Any advice or ideas would be greatly received!
Many thanks,
Lx

I run three (soon to be four) companies from home. I have a virtual PA who is part time and home based. She does a variety of things for her different clients such as e newsletters, diary management, marketing literature, website management and has just started managing her clients' social media accoounts.

It works well for us. She bills us for what we use and she is very flexible. I have recommended her to several of my clients. It's a great service for a new start up company to use as there often isn't enough money or work to do to justify a full timer.

Hi Helengrace, that is exactly the kind of thing that I would love to do! Do you have any hints or tips on getting started?! I can do all of the tasks that you have stated!

Do you happen to know if she advertised somewhere? How she got started?
Many thanks for any information that you can give me!
Kind regards,
Lx

Sorry been away over Easter.

I would suggest making small companies and start ups your target at first. Try networking events, enterprise clubs and any contacts you already have. Your local council might have local start up office units or industrial sites so they would also be good to target. Try contacting people who are advertising part time admin vacancies - they might never have thought of using a virtual PA. Network wherever you go - I recently picked up a client from a conversation I started with the person next to me on a train.

Be prepared to sell the idea of a virtual assistant before you sell yourself. From my coaching experience I'd say most start ups who run without admin support are run by people who have issues around delegation. You will need to gain their trust that you'll do a good job, so that's why I think personal networking might be good for you. I'd also suggest making connections with people who offer skills you can't offer. My PA has a link with a logo designer as it's something she doesn't offer. I'm sure she takes a cut of his fee but tbh I'm not bothered as I'd rather delegate it to her and pay up!

Social media is a huge growth area and many start ups can't spare the time to get confident with this so that might be a good thing to offer. It would also be a good idea to make contact with a reliable local printer as things like leaflet printing are easy things to delegate.

My virtual PA has been thinking of franchising her brand. If you want to PM me and let me know which area you're in I might be able to put you in touch with her.
