I would like to start in retail (online initailly to keep down costs) but want to sell my own line of clothes (womenswear), rather than buying in and selling on. I am not a designer but would concentrate on the business side of things, so how do I go about getting someone to design for me? Do I pay someone or do we establish a partnership? I have no idea how this would work and would really appreciate some advice from people who know more than I do.

Hi, I don't work in your industry so am no expert but FWIW I would be wary of setting up partnership even with someone who I worked with for years, you are sharing so many risks & sharing your livelihood with someone else.

Partnership will tie you to them whereas if you commission them to do a collection or pieces you will have freedom to use new designers as required. Just my own thoughts here, as I say I am no business expert!
