CV Question

Do I have to list all my previous jobs going back to when I was 15 with exact dates. Because I really don't think I can remember.

Can I just list the last 2 jobs which are relevant to the job I'm applying for and take me back about 10 years, and then give a brief summary of waitressing/shopwork/callcentre work etc? (Im 31 if that makes any difference).

Thanks

bump please?

And also what kind of thing should I be writing on my profile when I have been at home with the kids since 2007?

The last two jobs with a sentence or two of what you did before that will be fine. A CV is to sell yourself so only put stuff on there that will help you get the job you are applying for. At 31 you have plenty to put on there, so it's not as though you are school leaver and have to put everything that ever happened to you to fill up space Grin

Profile bit should be about what you offer and what you are looking for, so very very tailored to the job you are applying for.

What is average length these days? Just doing mine after 7 years in same job

purepurple · 03/04/2011 14:11

Length should be 2 pages max.

befuzzled · 03/04/2011 14:14

Great thanks, how much detail on usucation thesedays? Am thirties, snr IT professional, do I bother with o level details, degree etc? Or just degrees and prof qualifications?

befuzzled · 03/04/2011 14:15

Sorry fr hijacking btw!

stealthcat · 03/04/2011 14:16

Dont bother with things like o levels if you have higher qualifications, its not relevent.

purepurple · 03/04/2011 14:20

You could just say attended any high school and gained 11 olevels, without going into too much detail

befuzzled · 03/04/2011 14:20

Ta so bsc, msc and prof qualifications only? A levels?

befuzzled · 03/04/2011 14:20

X post, will summarise as suggested

stealthcat · 03/04/2011 14:22

Probably a matter of judgement eg how good are the A level grades? If all A'S I might be tempted to mention, otherwise I wouldnt.
On my CV I just have my first degree and subsequent, because no-one cares about the earlier things.

befuzzled · 03/04/2011 14:26

Well actually I did the IB not A levels so altho results were outstanding of course Grin I do remember wondering in the past of putting all my 7s most people in UK interviewing me prob won't know what means unless have kids doing it

Any other top tips most welcome! Have set myself goal of getting cv out by end of month but am a terrible procrastinator!

I am in similar boat where I need to get my arse into gear and try and find a job- am SAHM with 2 DSs. How about we have a MN Job club and try and motivate and encourage one another? There's a jobs fair on Thursday and my CV is woefully out of date :(

befuzzled · 04/04/2011 11:10

sounds good to me! I could do with the boost!
