Thread furter down has gotten me in a bit of a muddle...can someone clarify for me please

I work part time, mon, tue and weds. Fll timers get 25 days holiday plus BH. I also get an additional weeks holiday due to length of service.

I queried at work the two BH on a fri coming up and was told that 'I had my correct quota' but I am not sure??

I've come back from mat leave last aug and have not had any BH added to my AL allowance, again I queried this but was told I had to take my 6 weeks worth (i.e. my full syear's worth) but was not entitled to BH.

Can someone help my with how I calculate this, if I am in the wrong I just want to know so I am not muttering 'swizzled out of it' if in fact I am not being!!

I think BH are pro -rata ed as well - so for you 3/5 of Full timers BH - and you should be getting 3/5 full timer leave as well I assume -

What do you mean you haven't had any bank holidays added on? There have been quite a few bank holidays since August, so what has happened? Have you had to take them out of your six weeks?

The easiest way to think about it is as total entitlement. Full timers with your service get 38 days holiday per year (39 if they're giving you the royal wedding one as extra). You should get 3/5ths of that - 23 days (23.5). You then need to use days from your entitlement to cover bank holidays which fall on your normal working days - that will be most of them this year.

You need to remember that cause you work the first part of the week you will have more bh than you actually get bh allowance for, if you worked the end of the week you'd be better off.

I went back to work the week of the august bank holiday but that week worked tue, wed, thur as my boss asked me to, I had the mon/tue xmas BH and mon new year BH so I thought I should still have a few days owing to me and was told no I was clear? My boss has asked if I would change my days to tue, wed and thur of which I am happy to do but then would not work on any of the bank holidays and so am feeling a bit hard done by!! I am off this week trying to use up some more holiday so will ring HR again on mon with a bit more gusto now, thank you Smile

Where I work, part-timers get pro-rata annual leave plus pro-rata BH entitlement. At the start of the holiday year, I subtract from that total, the number of hours they're due to work on all the BHs in the year.

Obviously if you're part-time and (un)fortunate to work on Mondays & Fridays, you use all your pro-rata BH entitlement and probably need to top it up with some of your annual leave too. This is me at the moment.

If you don't work on the major bank holiday days, then you 'pocket' the pro-rata BH entitlement you haven't used and get to use it as normal annual leave.
