childcare vouchers v's tax credit - advice please

At the moment i receive help from working tax credits to help towards my childcare costs, and nearly all of my childcare is paid for (I am a single parent).

My boss mentioned childcare vouchers and suggested i look into them and he would be happy to enter into the scheme as would rather the money be in my pocket then the tax mans.

I'm just wondering if i would work out better or worse off paying for childcare this way?

Also can I still get some help from working tax credits if the vouchers do not cover all of my childcare costs?

If you are eligible for the childcare element of CTC then DO NOT use the vouchers.

There is more information about it somewhere on the CTC website but that is the long and short of it tbh.

have a look at money saving expert here as it explains it well - but in general if you get childcare cost with tax credits it doesn't work to get childcare vouchers as well

Hi

Sorry to jump in.

Does a Nanny have to be registered if a parent gets CTC?

CarGirl · 18/03/2011 19:08

If you want to claim the childcare element yes the childcare provider has to be ofsted registered whether it be nusery/childminder/nanny.

CarGirl.

Thankyou.

So how does this all work for the parent & Nanny?

Im new to it all.

CarGirl · 19/03/2011 18:38

I have no idea I would google nanny ofsted registration. I think there is a registration fee of up to £100 that the parent usually pays and nanny does have to be qualified.

SWEETY · 19/03/2011 18:58

Sorry, I meant how does it work with regards to the tax credits with the Nanny.

I know you can be a registered Nanny & use Childcare vouchers but a message above says dont use the vouchers if a parents got tax credits.

How does the pay work for a Nanny with a parent that has Tax credits?

Do you know?

Look at the child tax credits website.

Depending on your income and childcare expenses you may be entitled to receive up to 70% of your childcare expenses back via the CTC childcare element.
