1 hour lunch break - compulsory?

Hi NM

Is an hour lunch break compulsory? I asked for half an hour lunch as part of my flexible working application and was turned down because it is in my contract of employment and reason I was given also is that it is for the sake of my wellbeing. Any thoughts? I worked (currently on ML) full time Mon - Frid 9am - 5.30. Thanks

not compulsory. My working hours have nearly always been 9- 5.30 or 6 with a paid half hour lunch (at most). A few places offered a one hour but unpaid so i chose not to.

Where I work, it is compulsory to have a 30 minute break if you have worked 6+ hours.

It's 30mins at my place of work too...

Nope, I thought it was 20 mins break after 6 hrs work.

I used to have 1 hour when I worked full time.

However I got that agreed to 30 minutes when I went part time after having the children. I would work 8.30-5pm with a 30 minute lunch to do 16 hours over 2 days. It was agreed no problem. I work for local government btw.
