Found out there are internal jobs available on the company intranet but I'm on Mat leave, how can I get more info without alerting my boss?

Company is restructuring, my job is safe due to Mat leave & I'm due back approx when the new structure comes in. My boss sends me updates regularly & in the latest forwarded one it mentions the job section of the intranet. From this i can see there are jobs not on the main website.

As I'm not guaranteed a return to my old post ( my team won't exist) I'd like to see what else is available even if there is nothing for me. How can I find out without asking my boss as she may still be my boss in the new structure (& therefore I feel disloyal).

I don't think you need to feel disloyal.

You've stated you know you will have a job to go to due to being on maternity leave, but you know that it won't be the job you left, as it will no longer exist.

Your boss has now sent you information on the jobs availabe, presumably so that you can make clear which you are interested in.

She sent me an email which reference senior jobs on this other site but my level won't be there yet.

I still don't really see the problem. They have to give you a reasonable equivalent job when you return, I believe, but what's the problem with you applying for something more senior? Why would your boss mind that?

aska colleague you trust?
When I was on mat leave it was part of the policy that people on ML get sent these for eactly that reason...they neevr did though

theyoungvisiter · 12/03/2011 18:52

I would ask your HR dept to forward you the details. No need to give a reason.

I don't think it would be unreasonably btw, but I can see why Cheese might not want to say to her boss that she's looking around while on mat leave. I love my boss, and would feel the same. Not because I fear reprisals, but because I wouldn't want her to feel worried.

I'm hoping I get my Boss again & don't want her to feel I'm trying to escape! Think I will ask for an email address for HR

you need to be up front with your boss and ask for her advice.

Say what you have said here that you are hoping that you will be working for her, but are not sure if this will be possible and want to make sure that you get the best of the available options.

This is in no way 'disloyal'
