anyone ever set up a coffee shop with no prior experience?

i am asking for my friend.

without wanting to give to much info out about her, she was made redundant quite some time ago and has had no luck at all finding work. she has decided to look into opening a coffee shop in a rental unit within a local shopping complex where there currently isn't one.

I don't but I did consider doing it. EVerything I have read says that a) it will take a LOT of capital to set it up and keep it going b) the hours are a lot longer than you imagine and c) it is very difficult to make ends meet.

I am sure there are people out there who can do it and do it well and make a living but the amount of anti advice I've read has put me off a bit
