A 'WWYD?' situation!

I graduated from postgraduate training as a youth worker at the end of last year. However, I couldn't find a job as a youth worker (not a good time for us!), so took a 6 mth contract as a teaching assistant with a local school.

The school is lovely and they are really investing in me, training me up etc. Have now seen a youth work job that looks great, woud be employing everything I learned on my postgrad course and is offering much more money. No guarantee I would even get an interview if I went for it, of course, but I now agonising about it.

My boss at school asked me if I could commit to 6 mth contract when he took me on, and raised the issue again recently. I will be massively leaving them in the lurch if I leave before my time is up, basically.

WWYD?

You have to apply... If you didn't I think you'd always wonder what if......

You might be able to start the youth worker role giving the school plenty of notice to get a replacement. There are lots of people wanting to be TA's. So they'd find it easy enough to get other people in.

The school are being lovely to you cos' you are great at your job. If you don't get it then you can keep on being a TA.

Although it's a PITA for those on 6 month contracts to leave earlier but it's no big shocker to employers. So don't let it hold you back.

Have a go.

How long have you been there? I would tend to say that you shoudl do what is best for you, however it wouldn't be good to burn your bridges.

The best thing to do would be to say that you will stay until they get a replacement, but I wouldn't say anything until you had an interview for the new job. The new job might be able to wait a couple fo months while you sort yourself out.

Apply. But do check your current contract to see if there is payback due for training take If you leave.
