Should I train as a teacher?

I am considering retraining as a primary teacher. I'm 40 and have a long career in the property/construction industry but I have thought about teaching for a long time and I'm now at a point in my life when it may be possible to retrain.

The problem is, I have been reading articles about teachers having a lot of difficulties getting jobs and it being a really bad time to go into teaching. I'd really appreciate advice from people in the profession as to whether this is right or not as I am trying to weight up the pros and cons and obviously this would be a major con Smile

Thanks!

Hi - not a teacher but known quite a few people who have retrained - mostly from scientific background - It has mostly worked out well - however in primary my friend did take a while to get a permenant job - she had some supply before that - secondary where not so much issues but it was in an undersupplied subject area-
