Hi

job i want to apply for - requires a reference from my current/most recent employer. I have been working for the same firm for 4 years now, and can't tell them i am looking for work.

having had three mat leaves in that 4 years - no way! they've had a recruitment ban for the last thre years - so i don't feel secure enough in my job to chance it.

the jobs before that - one was with a supermarket - and they give a standard off-the-computer reference for everyone (e.g periods of work, how much absence, any disciplinary record)
and before then - is back in 2001!

so what would you do? i have a former teacher who can give me a reference, and friends from previous jobs (but back in ...2002 soonest i think)

thoughts ladies?

Write very clearly next to your current employers' details in the reference section (preferably highlight with highlight pen) ONLY TO BE CONTACTED AFTER FIRM JOB OFFER.
