Buying / selling holiday whilst on maternity leave.

Does anyone know how this would work please? We have the option to buy 5 extra days or sell 5 extra days per year. If I choose to do this whilst on maternity leave how does it work in terms of deduction of salary for those 5 days? My company offer SMP only.

You can't make deductions from SMP therefore it is unlikely you could buy 5 extra days. You could ask to take 5 days unpaid which would seem like a fair compromise.
