Housing Officer?

Is anyone out there a Housing Officer?

Do you like/hate it? If so, why? I'm thinking of a career change and quite fancy the sound of it (stupid fool I am!).

I used to be a HO. It was a great job in terms of the variety, dealing with different people etc. But in reality the workload was horrendous (and I worked for quite a good HA). Also, you do have to be very very thick skinned as you can get quite a lot of abuse.

How about contacting a few HAs and asking if you could shadow someone for a few days?

I am a Housing Officer and I love every minute of it. The variety is incredible, but you do have to be a person who can take the emotional highs and lows, very high levels stress and yes, the abuse, threats, and general nastiness of some people. Don't ever forget that this is a front line service, with all the implications of that.

IME you start working as a Housing Officer, and you either leave very, very quickly, or you stay forever.

Thanks girls

I'm pretty thick skinned but not too sure about the abuse side of things and how that would affect me. I've always worked in offices so the thought of being out and about dealing with people really appeals. I'm used to a high workload (sadly!).

The job shadowing is a good suggestion. I'll definitely look into that.

I see this post is really old but just in case anyone else
Looks this up I’ve been a HO for a number of years and loath it. Would never recommend this job to anyone x
