OK to chase up job application?

The closing date was a week ago. They'll be shut for half term and I don't want to be left in limbo. I'm already obsessively checking my emails. Would it be ok to phone and ask if I've been shortlisted? Or am I clutching at straws?

I think it would be perfectly reasonable to enquire about the progress of your appication. I am currently seeking a new post and have done this. Most of the time employers don't bother to contact you if you have been unsuccessful. I think it is very rude on thier part.Last month I attended an interview and the employer did not even bother to contact me to say I was unsuccessful. When I called them my calls were ignored. Spineless

I agree...it is rude to ignore applications. I know they must deal with alot of applications, but if someone has taken the time to apply, the least you can do is respond IMO.

I have been looking for a few months now without success. I live in a part of the country where jobs are always hard to come by. Maybe we should move to where the jobs are.
What is the jobs market like in your area?

Slow.
This time last year there would have been plenty of vacancies to choose from. I've noticed alot of fixed-term contracts too so I think permanent posts are harder to come by now.

I'm not too hopeful really as the job is slightly different to my current role. I know I'd absolutely LOVE this job though so I've still got everything crossed.

Yeah, chase them. Some employers are shocking.

I went for an interview a while ago. After four weeks, I sent them an email and left a message and no-one ever came back to me.

I should name and shame them really!

4 weeks after interview! That's so rude!

I've been trying all day so I think I'll have to wait until after half term now. I'm not very good at being patient Grin
