Maternity leave ends in April - if I send a resignation letter now what happens to my accrued holiday?

My maternity leave ends in the end of April. I have just told the HR, informally, I'm not coming back.

The HR lady told me to send a resignation letter as soon as possible.

But then it occurred to me: if I send my resignation now, do I still have the right to accrue annual leave for the whole year of maternity leave? Or should I wait and send the letter near April?

Is there anything else I should pay attention to?

You could send it now if you like, but just make sure the letter is absolutely clear that your termination date will be one year after the start of your maternity leave, so presumably end of April. Give the date.

You could say you understand you are required to give one month's notice however you are pleased to be in a position to give them two months' notice in order to assist with their planning.

Or you could wait until a month (or whatever your notice period is) before your end date. However given you have already had a conversation and told them of your decision I think I would suggest writing as soon as possible to formally confirm the effective date so there is no confusion/assumptions made on their part.

thanks for the answers. The problem with waiting is that they probably need my letter before they can start looking for someone else.

I'll be very careful with the dates and the wording of my letter, and make it all very clear with hr before i send the resignation.
