Thinking of training as a TA.......

...the next NVQ courses start in sept.

I nearly did it 18 months ago, and now really wish I had, but family circumstances prevented me.

I have a few questions;

How much does it cost for the years course?

I would only want P/T work after qualification....would that be an issue do you think?

If I only the one NVQ course, would I find it difficult to get a position as a TA?

I work in a volubtary capacity with young children now and lvoe it. I also did an OU course on understanding young children 3 years ago which I also enjoyed.

I know I have to have a school placement sorted first....how do you go about that?

thanks!

RMCW - just a thought, I've just been offered a job as lunchtime supervisor in my dc's school, you could apply at a couple of schools (if there's anything available) and ask if they would take you on for your placement also.

Don't think PT would be an issue I see LSA jobs advertised for 15/10 hours per week.

I've seen ads saying they are willing to develop the right person with training, etc so not always a barrier having the initial qualification.

Good luck. I am thinking along the same lines as yourself, getting some experience as lunchtime supervisor also have an application for a voluntary lsa at the local 6th form college supporting special needs students.

I have looked online and there is a BTEC course for a year....is BTEC better than an NVQ??
