Applying direct or through a recruiter?

Hello

A job's come up which I'm really keen on - I've seen it advertised on the company's own website (together with an application form you can send directly back to them), but today I also saw it advertised via a recruitment agency (who want a copy of your CV instead).

Which do you think I should apply through? I've already written a pretty good (I think!) application for their form, but I'm worried in case going through a recruiter would have more clout since then you've got someone to argue your case etc (assuming they're any good)...

Does it make a difference?

Thanks

most companies prefer to employ direct, if they employ via an agency they have to pay the agency fee.

I'd always apply direct. If you apply through the agency your CV may not ever get seen by the employer.

Direct. If there is absolutely nothing between you and a candidate the agency put forward, they will choose you so they don't have to pay the placement fee.
