New to Mumsnet, heard lot of good things so thought I woudl join. I have been trying to get back to work for a while, but find it hard to get anything that would fit schedule of taking care of my special needs son. I also found that some companies are reluctant to hire me when I mention my son. Any advise?

If you need to mention your son because you may need time off at short notice or lots of half days for hospital appts, etc then I can see why you would mention him but otherwise perhaps you don't need to bring it up.It's non of their business if he has SN if it won't affect your work.

If you say a bit more about what kind of schedule you need to fit around people will be more likely to come up with suggestions.

Thank you for your message. I just thought I should be upfront etc, might be better, but obviously didn't work.

It's all so political. I hate it but you have to play the game the others are playing.
