Car allowance be pro rata when hrs reduced?

Hi, i went back to work 3 days instead of 4. Hr are now questioning if my car allowance should be pro rata'd accordingly. It wasn't when i went from 5 to 4 days four years ago. I can see their arguement but also if you need a car for your job which i do you cant buy a car for half a week IYKWIM.
Any advice would help. Thx

Car allowance is pro rated where I work - ours 'compensates for wear and tear on your car from business use' so the rationale is that if you are working 3 days a week it isn't used for work the others

Yes as others have said. Also (I work for the NHS) I have just had my regular car allowance stopped entirely on the grounds that I don't do enough miles to fit the criteria of a regular user. (I probably would if I was ft). I get slightly higher mileage rate now instead.

In your position I may not query the fact that they didn't change it when you changed from 5 days to 4, or they may thank you for pointing it out and try to get it back off you!

Car allowances are a sore point where I work. People that never leave the office get car allowances and quite hefty ones at that - someone I know gets £12k per year. It's a perk at my company and they also use them to increase your salary but that means you'll never get an annual % increase on that portion of your salary.
I do quite a lot of miles and I don'tget one! Sorry to vent but at home sick and feeling miserable with everything!!
