Has anyone downsized and regretted it?

Some background.. I work in a well-paid job with great prospects and I'm doing 'well' whatever that means. It's over an hour away each way so the commute is hard, and the hours are long. So generally I either see the kids in the morning for an hour (a HECTIC hour) or in the evening for an hour but never both. I work 4 days a week and there is no option to reduce the hours further.

I'm starting to think the balance for the family is wrong and I need to address this in some way. I don't think I could be a SAHM as I like working, meeting people and earning some money but accept I won't earn anything near what I earn now if I move from this field. Here's my question.. Has anyone downsized their job in this way and regretted it?

Dh is at the moment. Was in an 'important' job which was taking over everything. Now at home until he gets a 'nice' job part time.

So he does regret it? [Sorry if I'm being stupid, long day etc].

As a family, is it better though?

Not yet! We are living off savings for now until he gets a new job but we get time together, he has been hands on with dd3(likely to be his only child) and neither of us realised how much the stress affected him( 4 days completely off from Jan-Srptember when I put his phone in the safe on holiday!)

One Sunday we were all sat in th living room watching a DVD and we realised that we hadn't done that for a ling time. And it was nice to have the time without work pressures.

Money is an issue but due to timing we had enough to get by on. Long term we have a target of what minimum we earn between us & mine is just over half so he should manage on a p/t post too.

I have been looking for a thread like this, I am in a similar position (except I work 5 days and 3 hrs on Saturday). I have 3 DC and I have been offered a Term time only job very close to home. I am just worried I may regret it, if I take the job, as it is a considerable drop income. But also thinking that the time I will gain will make up for it. Confused
Sorry can't offere advice, but will watch this thread with interest.
