advocacy?

Hi - hoping someone can give me a definition for 'advocacy'. This is for application form where one of the personal specs it asks for (as desireable) is experience of advocacy.

Does it include things like phoning agencies/writing letters on behalf of someone else? Or is it purely standing in court and speaking up for someone?

It probably depends on the specific role that you have applied for, can you say what it is?

Advocacy to me would be speaking in Court. Would this make sense to the job application?
