Has anyone built their own website?

Hi i've just started my own website and was wondering if anyone else had done the same. If i make a success of it i may not return to work after my maternity leave. How do you get your website to come up on the search engines?

This looks very professional, well done! (do web design as part of my job . Good loading times, good layout, easy to navigate and well done on using trail of breadcrumbs so users know exactly where they are. Obviously your range of stock will have to be bigger than it is now, but there's some tempting goodies among what you have as it is.
