Redundant on day returned from Mat leave

I was made redundant on the say I returned from Mat leave in 09. I had previously asked for flexible working and this was turned down. I was the only one made redundant and the company is doing well. Reason given was my role had diminished - some of it had due to me not being there and no proper cover taken on.

Does anyone have any similar experiences that went to tibunal - i have my case coming up soon and am going for unfair dismissal with sex discrimination.

Any advice or tribunal experience would be great thanks.

I don't have loads of experience but I would say it sounds as if they're on very dodgy ground. How did they select who was made redundant? I don't think to say your role had diminished will be sufficient for them and particularly if the tasks that you used to do have been given to someone else to do then that will not be acceptable grounds for making your role redundant - remember it is the role not the person that has to be redundant. Did they discuss it with you first and do the correct procedure or were you just told of the redundancy as not to follow procedure would be an automatic unfair dismissal anyway. How many others does the company employ? xxx

As it was just your post there is no duty to consult although it would be good practice. Prepare for
a fight ... If it's got to tribunal stage it's likely they gave a string defence (rightly or wrongly)

is the flexible working request relevant?

Have you got legal representation?

Strong, not string (iPhone)
