I'm in the public sector (local government) and am facing redundancy. My service with my current employer started in 2002, and with my previous employer in 1995. There was no gap in service between the two jobs - I left the old job on a Friday and started the new one the following Monday. As far as I'm aware, both organisations are covered by the redundancy modification order so my redundancy pay should be backdated to 1995.
However, HR are saying this does not apply because I left my previous employer voluntarily. My understanding was that public sector employees can move around without loss of service if employers are covered by the RMO.
My union is looking into this for me but is snowed under dealing with other members being made redundant and I was wondering if anyone on here had experience of this situation? The redundancy pay isn't great and it would make all the difference to have those extra years included.
