If you were working 3 days per week, which days would you do?

Assume 2 hour commute by car train and tube Sad

Option 1. Tues Wed Thurs on the basis that it is good to have three days in a row, don't want to travel on Friday and traffic generally busier on a monday?

or Option 2. Mon Wed Thurs or Mon Tues Thurs on the basis that it is useful to have your days off split up?

Have never worked fixed days part time before so any thoughts gratefully appreciated.

Won't know where I'm working til redundancies gone through. New structure is September so somewhere between May & September!

I do Mon Tues and Thurs. Mon is needed as everyone is active on a Mon. Tues gives a chance to respond to Mon work. Break Wed ready to see DC. Thurs tidy work up before weekend.

Monday is good day to work depending if your bank holidays are pro rata or not.

littlewaltham · 23/01/2011 21:43

Also if you split up your week and DC are ill you only need to find childcare for 1 or 2 days then you are off. Or only need to take 1 or 2 days off work to look after them.

I would work either Tues, wed and thurs or wed, thurs and friday. I currently work monday tues and weds and lose out because of the bank holidays nearly always being on a monday - because I work 18.5 hours per week I am entitled to 4 days bank holiday per year on top of my 12 days leave - so 16 days total. But as there were e.g last year 7 days bank holiday on Mondays I had to take those days off which meant that I only had 11 days annual leave.

If they had been on a Friday when I didn't work - I would have still had 16 days leave but could have taken it when I wanted. To be honest all this confuses my quite a lot so I may be talking rubbish but I am thinking of requesting changing my days to tues, weds and thurs or tues, weds and friday.

sorry I meant I only had 9 days leave.

I worked three days a week when I went back to work after having DS. After much to-ing and fro-ing I chose Tues, Weds and Thurs, and I'm convinced it was the right choice.

I'm now at college Mon, Tues and Thurs, and I would much prefer it Tues, Weds and Thurs.

MisSalLaneous · 23/01/2011 23:53

Tuesday - Thursday. It gives you long weekends, and I found it easier to be in a "work" or "home" state of mind. When I did odd on/off days (due to nursery availability), I ended up being stressed or thinking about work on days home with ds.

giraffesCantDirtyDance · 23/01/2011 23:57

3 in a row i think.

ginmakesitallok · 24/01/2011 08:08

freshmint · 24/01/2011 13:58

Thanks very much for this everyone. I'm going to go for Tues, Wed, Thurs and see if they are happy with me doing that.

If this hasn't been mentioned (not read all answers). I'd always work a Monday. Means when a public holiday falls on that day and the office is closed you get the day off.

PancakesOnSaturdays · 24/01/2011 17:21

I think I would prefer Tuesday Thursday and Friday myself.
