Hi all,

Am due to do my first "signing-on" next week with evidence I am "actively seeking new employment".

I have secured a new job BUT it doesn't start for quite a few weeks....

Do I tell the staff at the job centre & therefore risk them stopping payments on the basis I am not "earning/actively seeking new employment" the unemployment benefit or do I play it safe even though I HATE lying & take in records to show I am still being pro-active?

Am I expected to sit with the staff while they throw a load of inappropriate job descriptions at me next week?!

Not been in this situation before. Confused

I got a job after about 10 wks of signing on. When I went and informed them it was 3 wks till my new job started. In order to keep receiving JSA up to the point I started I still had to go and prove I had actively been seeking employmentHmm. I queried what exactly they wanted me to do given that I had accepted the job.

Basically I carried on 'saying' or writing in that book you get that I had applied for so and so job, or was waiting to hear back form so and so....all made up but she seemed to know that and was okay with itConfused

Oh and if they do give you jobs to apply for them nod and take them home. I then used to go back and write exactly why I din't apply, you don't have to accept what they throw at youSmile

As long as you're looking for employment, it shouldn't matter- If your job starts in 10 weeks time, you could look for temp posts. Also, they don't have to know you've actually got a job starting whenever. Just smile, nod, and avoid carrot picking.
