I'm looking at getting back to work soon after an 8 year break. I have a degree in Information Management (Library Studies). During which I covered business study and IT related modules. I never did work as a Librarian and started working in IT as a DBA and Systems Admin.

What I'd like to do is work in an academic library but those jobs don't come up often locally. My IT skills are so many years out of date I'd never get a job as a techie without some serious re-training, and whilst I enjoyed my old jobs, IT wasn't a life calling! I'd be happy starting work again in a part time admin job! Or temping. I'm thinking it'd be useful to have a few qualifications to prove I can do things! Wink and give me max flexibility with the jobs I can go for.

So I'm planning on doing some of the Computer Driving License tests, to prove I can use a PC. Do you think doing the OU course would also be useful to me? I can't imagine being an accountant but would it show that I have some competence with figures?

Hopefully I should start work soon with the National Census, it's only a months work but at least I'll have a recent reference.
