Does anyone know if i cna take self employed/causual/very short term contract work while on maternity leave and not lose my SMP?

I'm working as a PA currently and will have SMP from my current company but i am also a stage manager and normally do a few days here and there over summer and was thinking i might do some more of that while on maternity leave but would prefer to keep my SMP.

I'm not up to date with info, but I was in a similar situation several years ago and it is possible, but only in very limited circumstances. I think you must have been working for the part time / self employed roll in the qualifying week 15th week before EDD (so 25 weeks pg) for it to be ok

You could call the Tax office self employment section and ask. They've been very helpful when I've had odd queries like this before :)

Genuinely self-employed work is absolutely fine, so as long as you are registered with HMRC as self-employed and are working on that basis, you'll be fine.

Hi both

I'll give the Tax office a call too
