DH - how do I get him to help out at home?

Hi, I am returning to work next month after a period of being off sick with PND. One of my worries is getting my DH on board with helping out more with housework and childcare. When I raise the subject, he gets very defensive and claims that he does "loads" and "is far better than most of the other dads we know". He may well be better for all I know, but all the shopping, cooking and laundry/ironing, pick ups and drop offs to nursery are my department and I'd really like to share it out a bit more. I don't think I'm being unreasonable, but I'm not sure how to talk to him without him getting all narky and it descending into an argument about who washes up the most. Any tips gratefully received. Will check back in for advice later tonight as about to go into an area with no mobile reception and cant use my iphone (eek).
