Tax refund - maternity leave?

Hi,

I received a junk email stating I am entitled to a tax refund. However this has made me think...

Am I entitled to any Tax refund if I have been on Maternity leave for one year??

Thank you....

You might be but you would only get it retrospectively ie claim in April 2011 at end of tax year

How do you claim or find out?

I had a tax rebate in the latter months of my maternity leave. I can't remember the details now but I'm pretty sure it was paid to me in the February and March of my leave, prior to my return to work. I think it is something to do with the personal tax allowance being spread over the 52 weeks, so by the end I'd paid more than I should have done.

Gah. I have a bad cold so finding it difficult to think clearly. But, I didn't need to claim anything, it happened automatically. Check with your payroll team.

Ring your payroll people and then maybe the tax office. At worst you complete a tax return in April to reclaim or your tax code for next year could be adjusted if you are returning to work.
